Amp & Tone combines a preamp and a resonant lowpass filter. Cutoff and amplitude can be modulated positively and negatively via CV, the latter linearly and exponentially. That’s it.

No, of course not. From a purely technical point of view, everything has been said about the module, but what counts is the sound and that has it all. The preamp can not only simply control the volume, but can also really bite via clipping. From subtle roughening to brute „broken“sounds everything is in here. The resonance turns out aggressively, which in the first half of the control provides crisp sounds and in the second can even create powerful kick drums, still without previous overdrive.

Amplitude does what you expect from this parameter: control volume. Thanks to the two inputs, this can be modulated simultaneously from two sources, for example, a function as an envelope mixed with weird sounds via amplitude modulation. By the way, the exponential input is normalized to the CV input of the filter, which saves a plug connection in most cases. If you feed a high frequency source like an oscillator into the module for the purpose of AM, it is clearly audible at the exponential input. However, this does not detract from the usefulness.

Verdict

Amp & Tone seems inconspicuous, but it is enormously versatile. The filter sounds bombastically good and delivers everything from crisp basses and zaps to screaming leads and distorted percussion sounds. In addition, there is the practical and modulable amp section. We can recommend the module without reservation, even if there is already a filter in the module. Top!
