Elysion 2 by Sonuscore

-

„The future is now!“is the promise of the second incarnation of the Elysion sample instrument developed by Sonuscore for Best Service. Elysion 2 features a revised user interface on the one hand, and new presets and Distortion and Saturation effects on the other. For the hybrid twin of the Best Service instrument, The Orchestra, synthetic sounds have been sampled with great attention to detail featuring up to three alternate samples and five velocity levels. On the one hand, 207 hybrid, organic instruments are included, categorized as Ambiance FX, Hits and Sustains. On the other hand, 400 complex animated themes are provided, which consist of up to five of the mentioned instruments. The Ensemble Engine, already familiar from its predecessor, is now even more powerful: Each of the five instruments can be played melodically or controlled by its own arpeggiator or envelope. With the envelope, in addition to being able to draw in complex envelopes, you can also create gate effect patterns. Just by using different arpeggios, you can create multi-layered sequences or even complex polyrhythms in no time at all. It gets even more exciting thanks to the ability to morph between two different patterns for each arpeggiator and envelope. Furthermore, the five instruments can be individually enhanced with effects. The repertoire consists of a Multimode Filter, Equalizer, Saturation, Distortion and LoFi effects, as well as Chorus, Flanger and Phaser. It‘s just a pity that you can‘t set the sample start of the sounds. In the mix function, you will also find the global effects Compressor, Delay and Reverb.

The preset offering provides a great demonstration of what is possible with Elysion 2. You‘ll find multi-layered ensemble rhythms, futuristic soundscapes, pulsating arpeggios and sequences, and much more. These can be customized in detail and, of course, you can also create your own combinations. It‘s not uncommon for one note or a simple chord to be enough to create multifaceted and complex patterns. The Modulation Wheel can be used to create impressive performances. Presets are preconfigured with modulated sound and effect parameters, but you can also create your own modulations. For example, how about fading from a surface to a rhythmic sound texture, or from a dry sound to a sound with a lot of effects? This is easy thanks to the powerful motion engine, which also offers two step sequencers to control the pan position. It‘s also great that you can transmit performances as different MIDI channels of a DAW to edit them in detail there or use them to control other sound generators. It‘s also worth trying out the expressive melodically playable instruments. In practice, with just a few instances of Elysion and additional drum and percussion sounds, you can compose sophisticated scores for movies, games or commercials; and with its strength for epic sounds, the instrument naturally also impresses in trailers and epic music. It is truly remarkable how quickly ideas can be turned into captivating pieces of music with Elysion 2, which professional composers, in particular, will appreciate.

Verdict

In Version 2, Elysion inspires more than ever as a multi-faceted and inspiring scoring tool for cinematic synthetic sounds. Covering the full range of emotions, this sample instrument feels equally at home in ethereal Chillout or Ambient tracks as it does in driving, bombastic scores, gloomy trailer music or aggressive electronic productions. The Modulation Wheel can be used to achieve gripping voltage curves and great variations. Thanks to the well thought-out and also very chic user interface, you can reach the desired musical goal very quickly.
