Vocaster Two

-

The new Vocaster series consists of two audio interfaces specially developed for podcasting. Vocaster One has to make do with one signal path, while the Vocaster Two we tested can also integrate guests into the recording by way of a second channel. Both interfaces are also available for newcomers as inexpensive bundles with a suitable broadcast microphone and closed-back headphones.

Vocaster Two is pleasantly large and easy to use at approximately 22.5 x 50 x 11 cm, yet is easy to transport due to its light weight of less than one pound. The black matte finish, combined with the red border, makes for a chic design. A USB-C port is used for connecting to the computer, and a cable to USB-A is included. The computer can also take over the power supply through this port: alternatively, it can be powered via an external power supply unit. Conveniently, there are two separate headphone jacks on the front for the host and for the guest of the podcast. The two associated microphone inputs are XLR with switchable phantom power on the back, as are the two jack outputs for connecting to the monitors. The connections for the phone (input via mini jack or Bluetooth 5.0) and camera (mini jack) are just as practical for the field of use. The operation using the central, large endless controller featuring an LED ring, which leaves a very high-quality impression with a large metal part, is also well solved. The Enhance feature automatically adjusts both the level and sound of the voices, so you can focus solely on the podcast and your guest. The free Vocaster Hub software allows you to make additional adjustments and, thanks to the Control Room, adjust the levels of up to 12 tracks (two mic/aux/phone/Bluetooth/camera and additional loopback).

Verdict

Vocaster Two offers very good features, paired with well thought-out and simple operation, as well as useful presets and tools such as Autogain. The sound quality is just as good as the workmanship and the price, so that Vocaster can definitely establish itself in the highly competitive market of podcast interfaces.
