The Macallan 71 Years Old

Matured in hand-selected ex-sherry casks, it impresses with an aroma that is both sweet and spicy, continuing on the palate with opulent vanilla notes and leading into a finish of wood smoke and spice and peachy finish.

Tasting Notes: Wood, ginger, nutmeg, orange peel, vanilla, crème brûlée, honeydew melon, fig, smoky tea, treacle tart, peach and hazelnut.

Colour: dark copper

Alcohol %: 41.6

The Macallan 78 Years Old

Blends fresh fruit aromas of apple, peach and grape with notes of old leather and lush vanilla essences. The nose and palate capture the warmth of oak, followed by rich dried fruit notes and a hint of almond-nut flavours.

Tasting Notes: Apple, peach, grape, lime, verbena, oak, leather, dates, sultanas, vanilla, caramel, vanilla tart.

Colour: Sunset on the Spey River

The Macallan 40 Years Old, The Macallan 50 Years Old and The Macallan 60 Years Old complete the outstanding portfolio of the Red Collection.

Each Red Collection bottling rests in an exquisite oak presentation box, made from the same sustainable oak as The Macallan’s exceptional casks. Beautifully lined with soft, sustainably produced red leather from Scottish supplier Bridge of Weir Leather, a manufacturer of upholstery for luxury car brands around the world.

A bespoke case has been handcrafted by Scottish craftsman Method Design Studio to house three of these highly exclusive bottlings.

On the importance of the Red Collection to The Macallan brand as a whole, Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell explains, “To have created the Red Collection, the highlight of The Macallan’s portfolio, from some of the oldest and rarest casks in the world is an incredible privilege. Thanks to the foresight of the former The Macallan’s senior managers, who stored and matured these exceptional casks, we have been able to create such a remarkable range of whiskies. Each precious drop offers a unique opportunity to explore The Macallan’s whisky heritage. The rich flavours and incredible elegance that characterise these bottlings from The Red Collection are a direct result of the craftsmanship, knowledge and skill of our whisky masters past and present.”

Auction at Sotheby’s

An extremely rare set of The Red Collection, featuring illustrations by Javi Aznarez and labels signed by the artist and the whisky makers, was auctioned at Sotheby’s in October 2020 for £756,400 in aid of the charity City Harvest London.

The Macallan 40 Years Old, The Macallan 50 Years Old und The Macallan 60 Years Old komplettieren das außergewöhnliche Portfolio der Red Collection.

Versteigerung bei Sotheby’s

Ein extrem seltenes Set der Red Collection mit Illustrationen von Javi Aznarez und vom Künstler sowie den Whisky-Machern signierten Etiketten wurde im Oktober 2020 bei Sotheby’s für 756.400 Pfund zugunsten der Hilfsorganisation City Harvest London versteigert.
