A NEW ERA OF MOTORSPORT HAS BEGUN

-

More and more people around the world are following the innovative Formula E racing series and the arrival of CUPRA Formula E has now added considerable excitement to motor-racing events. Twenty-two world-class drivers and the most important names in the world of cars and motor-racing. Such names on the starting grid in the 2023 season include the CUPRA ABT FE team with drivers Robin Frijns and Nico Müller as well as revolutionary Gen3 racing cars. In addition to the teams and the drivers, the focus is primarily on the vehicles. This season they are smaller, lighter and faster than ever. All the cars on the grid have the same type of chassis and battery so the result of a race is decided by the drivers’ skills and the teams’ race strategy.

CHANGING LANES

The ninth season of Formula E heralds the start of a new era of motorsport not just for CUPRA but also for the all-electric racing series itself. In the 2023 season, the Gen3 racing car makes its debut as the fastest, lightest, most powerful and most efficient electric racing car ever built.

“Formula E is a unique motorsport platform for the world’s leading car manufacturers to create emotions and continue to prove that electric motorsport is not boring, but rather goes hand in hand with extreme performance,” says Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA. “Racing is at the core of CUPRA’s DNA – and at CUPRA we go out to win,” he adds, explaining CUPRA’s move into Formula E and describing 2023 as “the right time to take the next leap forward and join the world’s greatest electric motorsport competition”.

CUPRA’S PERFORMANCE AT FORMULA E CAUSED A BIG SURPRISE IN BERLIN

At the end of April in Berlin, the plan to go out to win really came off and fans at the Formula E race witnessed one of the biggest sensations. The CUPRA ABT team, which had not yet scored any points, surprised everyone by taking pole position in qualifying at the Tempelhof Airport Circuit, Both vehicles were even on the front row of the grid, gaining points in the current standings.

“This weekend was a bit of a rollercoaster ride of emotions: a tough Saturday was followed by a Sunday with a place on the front row of the grid and points in the race. It was nice and emotional to see the happy faces in the team when Robin and I came back into the pits after the successful qualifying. We knew the race was going to be tough, but we still made the best of it,” commented Nico Müller. For everyone at ABT CUPRA, however, it’s clear that Berlin has provided the perfect motivation for the entire season.
