MoMo: Glitches hit interoperability space

-

The ambitions of the government to rake in more revenue from the introduction of the Electronic Levy is being threatened as Ghana’s interoperability space seems down leading to a halt in transactions.

The interoperability space operated by Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited (GhIPSS) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Bank of Ghana and was incorporated in May 2007.

Despite the glitches in the system in the past week, the Public Relations Officer of GhIPPs, Eunice Asantewaa told Classfmonline.com that the system is fully functional and that they are recording transactions on the GhIPPS platform.

She added that if there is any glitch in the system it might be coming from the telecommunications Companies' end.

She noted that anytime there was going to be a planned maintenance exercise, all the parties in the sector are duly informed so if there is a glitch it may be from the telcos end as a result of maintenance.

But customers of the Mobile Money (Momo) platforms operated by the telcos are reeling over their inability to smoothly transfer money from one Momo account to the other.

Over the past couple of weeks, customers of AirtelTigo money were unable to transfer funds from their accounts to customers of MTN momo accounts holders.

So, is the situation with customers of Vodafone cash and since yesterday, April 11, 2022 transfers from Vodafone cash to MTN momo are still pending.

Management of Airtel Tigo last week told customers they have challenges with their platform and money transferred to other networks will be retrieved after 24 hours. It is, however, not clear if the glitch in the systems can be attributed to the Telcos or GhIPPs.
