Metro work stoppage

-

The Athens metro and tram will not run for three hours on Tuesday morning due to industrial action by transport workers. Unions said the work stoppage would last from 9 a.m. to noon. They called on all employees of the transport companies to participate in a protest against the government’s planned labor law. Services are expected to wind down before 9 a.m. and may take some time to resume normal service in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Athens Urban Rail Transport Company (STASY) has petitioned an Athens court to declare the work stoppage illegal and abusive. The work stoppage coincides with a hearing at the Council of State against the trade union law.

The suspect is expected to appear before an Iraklio prosecutor this week. It was not known whether the dogs will be available for adoption.

Europe Day.

The Presidential Mansion in Athens was lit up in the colors of the Ukrainian flag on Monday to mark Europe Day. In a statement, the Office of the Presidency said that the initiative “is a minimal sign of solidarity and support for the Ukrainian people, who are fighting for freedom, independence, the rule of law and the right to self-determination, the fundamental values of our culture.” Europe Day is a day celebrating “peace and unity in Europe,” celebrated on May 5 by the Council of Europe and on May 9 by the European Union. The first recognition of Europe Day was by the Council of Europe, in 1964.
