Pampering 101 – the manicure
Even though you can probably do your own manicure at home, and do it decently, sometimes you just feel like a spa day.
And that’s okay, because apart from being relaxing (you don’t have to tidy your space after the manicure, the salon does that) manicures can be fun.
The salon will doubtless have many different colours of polish and designs so the options for the way your nails can look are endless. Matched with the actual treatment of the manicure, the experience can be a rewarding one.
The treatment includes, but is not limited to, soaking your hands in warm fragrant water, removal of dead skin and calluses, cuticle treatment, light massage and polish application, which if course is optional.
Spa manicures are popular not only because of how great your nails look afterward, but also because of the pampered treatment.
For people who wish to have more than the look of their natural nails, special nail applications add thickness and length to the nail and help the manicure last longer. Acrylic, gel and shellac nail set applications are artificial nail sets that can achieve this effect. Acrylic nails, the most commonly used artificial nails, are glued on. The downside of acrylic nails is that the intensity of the glue can damage your real nail.
To avoid nail damage, a person can receive a gel nail set, in which a wet gel-like substance is spread over the nails and it hardens to reinforce the natural nail. Another option is a shellac application, which goes on like polish but has the strength and shine of gel nails. This is an option for those people with weak or thin nails.
The options for nail art and embellishments are endless. If simple polish colours are not flashy enough for you, consider adding nail art or embellishments. Salons can add art to your nails by applying multiple colours or designs onto the nail. Other embellishments can be added to your fingernails to make them stand out. Glitter, rhinestones, gems and even tiny pearls can be glued onto your nails to add flair. (eHow)
