Futsal Referees Refresher Course ends today

-

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) in partnership with the Petra Organization yesterday launched a two-day Futsal Referees Refresher Course at the federation’s secretariat.

The aim of the forum, is to develop future International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) referees as well as to educate players on the correct rules of the format.

Some 10 prospective Futsal Referees from Georgetown, Upper Demerara, West Demerara and Berbice Football Association are participating in the course, which ends today.

GFF’s Head of Refereeing Department Stanley Lancaster, said he welcomed the initiative due to the influx of tournaments in the shorter version.

He added, that a neglect in the administration of the correct rules and regulations has affected the manner in which previous tournaments were officiated.

Petra Organization Co-Director Troy Mendonca, declared that the assistance being provided by the entity is part of their mandate to develop the sport.

Guyana Futsal Association first VicePresident Mark Younge said, “We have a chance to show what football is all about and we hope it doesn’t stop here as our referees can go forward and be FIFA referees.”

Meanwhile, Head of the National Referees Council and GFF Executive Committee Member Dion Inniss challenged the participants to absorb as much information as possible. He further thanked the Petra Organization for their support in making the seminar a reality.
