Bar­ba­dos: Tear­ful good­byes at CBC

(Bar­ba­dos Na­tion) The mood at the state-owned Caribbean Broad­cast­ing Cor­po­ra­tion (CBC) on Fri­day was som­bre as some staff mem­bers got their re­trench­ment let­ters.

Let­ters had also been handed out on Thurs­day, as the lone tele­vi­sion sta­tion was im­pacted by Govern­ment’s on­go­ing re­trench­ment pro­gramme.

THE NA­TION was re­li­ably in­formed that some staffers were openly cry­ing and hug­ging each other while say­ing good­byes to col­leagues.

Some well-known names were among those leav­ing, in­clud­ing head of news and cur­rent af­fairs Michelle Arthur, se­nior jour­nal­ist Peter Thorne and pop­u­lar ra­dio an­nounc­ers Dave Smooth, DJ In­dian and DJ Hur­ri­cane.
