WFFA to support local freestyle football festival

The World Freestyle Football Association (WFFA) has confirmed support and recognition of the first ever virtual ‘Skill Thrill Freestyle Football Festival’, which will be coordinated by the Right Start Foundation of Linden.

This is according to a release from the organisers.

According to the organisers, correspondence signed by Martin Alvear, the

Central America and South America Continental Leader, was sought by Right Start Foundation Director Collis Gifth during the month of October.

“Collis contacted me [ Alvear] in October 2020 regarding a very interesting project that involves the growth of Freestyle Football in Guyana called Skill Thrill Freestyle Football Festival 2020 which we believe is going to make a good impact on the Guyana’s youth. The WFFA has been searching for years someone who’s eager to work in behalf of the sport in Guyana, and we believe Mr. Gifth is the right person for the role,” Alvear wrote.

According to the release, support will be provided in several ways, chief among which will be to chart the course for Guyana to achieve affiliate membership status as well as technical guidance, marketing strategies, training workshops for local judges and virtual judges for the actual competition.

“As the representative of the Central and South America WFFA, I’m compromised to assist the event in these ways: (1). By working to make Guyana an affiliate member of the WFFA and to develop programmes to improve Freestyle in Guyana. (2). By offering technical guidance and support to organizers. (3). By providing virtual judges and offering training workshops for local judges for the competition, so they have technical knowledge about Freestyle Football. (4). By assisting in marketing of the competition on WFFA digital media platforms”, the release concluded.

The event will be open to individuals as young as 16-years-old who are residing in Guyana. Each participant, following registration, must submit a video no longer than three minutes in duration, displaying their freestyle ability.

Edited videos will not be accepted by the judging committee which will be identified prior to the start of the event.

The 10 best freestylers will advance to the second round which will be in person. The grand finale will also be contested during the second round. The winner of the event will pocket $100,000 and a trophy, with the runner-up pocketing $50,000 and the corresponding accolade. The other participants who reached the final 10, will pocket $10,000 each. Participants will be judged in four categories, Creativity & Versatility, Trick Execution, Acrobatics and Musicality.
