Babulall and Sons T10 softball tournament launched
The inaugural Babulall and Sons T10 softball tournament was launched yesterday at Shrida Bar, Queenstown, Essequibo Coast.
Teams will battle for over $400,000 in cash and prizes in two divisions with the event running from today and culminating May 29.
The round-robin tournament is being organised by softball enthusiasts, Kumar Dass and Brian Mangar.
According to the organisers, currently 10 teams have enlisted in the Open category which has been divided into two groups. Each team representative pulled their group from a bag at the launch resulting in Cullen All-stars, Adventure Sports Club, Affiance Sports Club, Golden Fleece Sports Club and Queenstown Ariel XI being in Group A while Group B will feature Crown XI, HVA Spartans, United Brothers, Health Masters and Venom. The Open category will see each Man-of-theMatch walking away with a trophy.
In the Over-40 division, the four teams playing will be Sunrisers Masters, Invaders Masters, Renegades and Queenstown Tigers.
Dass said that other teams wishing to join will have up to the end of next week to register in both divisions. Entrance fee stands at $8,000.
Eight matches will be played at the New Opportunity Corps and Maria’s Lodge grounds with two more grounds
namely, Queenstown and Number One to be added next week. The ‘Supreme’ ball will be used.
Dass explained COVID-19 regulations will be enforced during the event which will see persons in the venues required to
wear masks.
No spectators will be allowed.
“We need everyone in the venue to wear a mask so if your player comes without a mask, he will not be allowed in until he gets a mask, COVID is real and we
need to take precautions,” Dass stated.
Dass also informed the representatives that no drinking in the venue will be allowed and anything against the regulations will result in a disqualification.
