The Guyana Cricket Board recently filled several executive positions at its first Ordinary General Meeting first Ordinary General Meeting for the 2021-2023 term last week at the La Bonne Intention Sports Facility.

One of the key appointments filled was that of the position of GCB vice president with responsibility for administration.

The post, previously held by Rabindranath Saywack, went to Azad Ibrahim, who was recently appointed manager of the Guyana National Stadium.

According to a press release from the GCB, the changes were done in accordance with the Guyana Cricket Administration Act.

“As per the important agenda item and consistent with the Guyana Cricket Administration Act 2014, three vacancies on the Executive Committee of the GCB were filled,” the release stated.

While the release did not state on what grounds the position was made vacant, Stabroek Sport was reliably informed that Saywack had resigned from the position and was re-elected to the executive as Marketing Manager.

“Ibrahim is an executive member of the Muslim Youth Organization

(MYO), a Vice-President of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) and Treasurer of the Demerara Cricket Board. He was recently appointed as manager of the Guyana National Stadium. Members agreed that Mr. Ibrahim would be able to establish an important nexus between the GCB and the Stadium,” the release detailed.

The release also listed Saywack, a former Cadet Officer in the Guyana Defence Force, as a successful

and respected businessman in the agriculture sector who currently serves as vice-president of the Berbice Cricket Board.

The other change to the executive was that of Brian Sukhai who was elected treasurer.

He replaces the late Pretipaul Jaigobin who died in an accident back in April.

“Sukhai is a former student of Queen’s College and a Guyana Scholar who qualified as an ACCA. Mr. Sukhai played cricket for a

number of years for the Malteenoes Sports Club and was treasurer of the People’s Assembly Church for three years. He is presently employed as the Divisional Director with Responsibility for Finance at Power Producers and Distributors. Previously he worked as an accountant at GBTI, as a Business Analyst at MICROFIN and for ten (10) years was the Programme Manager of the European Union (Guyana). Mr. Sukhai has been highly recommended

to the GCB and with his expertise in financing and wealth of experience, he is expected to be of tremendous assistance in the financial management of the Board,” the release stated.

The meeting was chaired by GCB head, Bissoondyal Singh, who according to the release noted that this was the first time in 10 years that all three County Boards were present and who described the meeting as “highly successful.”

Among the matters discussed were the development of cricket including youth and women’s cricket, prudent financial management, accountability and transparency of all GCB matters, the release stated.

Also discussed was Pakistan’s upcoming tour of the West Indies where three T20I matches are scheduled to be played at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
