Ravens beat Eagles in exhibition match

The second Rawle Toney 3x3 Basketball Classic was officially launched Friday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
Tournament Organizer Rawle Toney during brief remarks stated that, the format was pivotal for the discipline and the country in terms of tourism and what the local governing body wants to do with the sport in the future.
He expounded, “It’s very important for the country as it’s the first endorsed 3x3 event in the country by FIBA. It’s very critical as it gives the players a platform for exposure and to be registered internationally to improve their rankings.”
Toney thanked the sponsors for the timely and invaluable support which, he said, will aid in making the tournament a competitive success.
According to Toney, international teams have signaled their intention to participate in the tournament which will certainly add to the flavour and competitive interest of the event.
He thanked the General Secretary of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Patrick Haynes for his guidance, as he was instrumental in making the tournament a reality from a technical and consultative position.
The tournament, which is set to commence February 19th-20th at the same venue, will be contested for a first prize package of $600,000.
Meanwhile in the exhibition tournament, Ravens defeated Eagles 2211 while Linden defeated Colts 22-8 in Men’s section. In the girls’ matchup, Kwakwani defeated Georgetown 15-8.
