GWI awards 19 bursaries to students
The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) on Thursday awarded 19 bursaries to its employees’ children yesterday at the company’s Head Office in Georgetown.
The bursaries were awarded to children who did well at the 2021 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).
The bursary is the company’s way of recognizing the achievements made by the employees’ children as well as a way of providing them with encouragement.
The top achievers were, Morven Barran and Anaiya Benjamin who both secured places at Queens College while Amare Daniels and Natalia Gangaram were awarded places at Bishops’ High School and St. Rose’s High School respectively.
According to a GWI press release, the Human Resource Manager, Simone Jacobs said that the students have made themselves, respective schools, parents and GWI proud and as such expressed gratitude to the teachers and parents for their commitment while the students were preparing for the examination.
GWI’s Executive Director of Commercial Services and Customer Relations, Marlon Daniels, emphasized acknowledged each student and thanked their parents for being academically supportive and noted that the bursary is just one example of the utility’s ways of honouring the members of the families who performed well and need to be recognized.
He also wished the children well in their secondary life and highlighted and informed them of the careers offered by the corporation which include, Business, Human Resources and Sanitation Management, Law and Engineering.
The director further thanked GWI’s Board of Directors and Management for the awards and urged the children use then wisely for the new academic year and the continuation of studies at their respective secondary schools.
