-

The Guyana Harpy Eagles’ Best versus Best four-day cricket match ended in an expected draw after Kemol Savory and Tagenarine Chanderpaul notched up half centuries on the final day at Albion Community Development Centre ground, Berbice yesterday.

Resuming on eight without loss in their second innings, Leon Johnson’s XI closed the day’s play and the match on 170 for three after 83 overs.

Raymon Perez converted his overnight score of four to 10 before being bowled by left-arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul (151).

However, the day belonged to Chanderpaul and Savory who had by lunch, forged a 60-run, second-wicket partnership.

Chanderpaul would go on to make 52 from 154 balls during his three-hour resistance before he was run out by Quintin Sampson, ending the 96-run partnership.

Savory duly brought up his half century before Johnson’s XI went to tea on 119 for two.

In the final session, Savory added three more before he was dismissed by Ashmead Nedd (1-33) for 54. His 189-ball innings spanned nearly four hours and included three fours and one six.

Johnson also got to spend some time at the crease, soaking up 94 deliveries and hitting four boundaries on his way to 32 not out while his Georgetown Cricket Club teammate, Vishaul `Cheesy’ Singh was unbeaten on 11 from 36 balls.

Harpy Eagles will next week play the second match of their scheduled three warm up matches at the same venue ahead of this year’s Regional first-class season.
