Aruba Airlines gets greenlight to restart Guyana operations

Government has granted approval for the return of Aruba Airlines, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill said, having reviewed the airline’s application to operate here.

On the sidelines of the year-in-review press conference last Monday, Edghill said that while the airline has been given the greenlight, it is yet to indicate a possible startup date.

Once it restarts operations, it will be operating the Guyana to Havana, Cuba route as it previously did.

The Minister made the disclosure after being asked if any new airlines will be entering the Guyana market this year.

The airline operated briefly on the route after being granted permission in 2017 by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority.

When it started operations in August 2017, it operated three times weekly. It, however, curtailed operations with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic and the related restrictions on air travel.

Prior to the pandemic the Guyana to Cuba destination was lucrative route as thousands have been traveling back and forth to engage in commercial activities and to attend visa appointments at the US Embassy here in Georgetown.
