GAPLF seeking sponsorship for FESUPO Classic Powerlifting Championship in Brazil

-

The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) is preparing to field a team to attend the 36th annual FESUPO Classic and Equipped Power-lifting and Bench Press Championship scheduled for September 6-11 in Santa Caterina, Brazil.

The release informed, Team Guyana will be selected from 26 shortlisted athletes comprising the preliminary nominations. The shortlist features a contingent of young athletes, which includes firsttimers, Keisha Abrigo and Shelly Gomes. Among the seniors are Bjorn Williams, Wasim Mohamed, and Romario Gonsalves.

It further stated that Guyana’s preparation was initially for the IPF/NAPF Regional Powerlifting Championships scheduled for August 14-20 in Panama City, Panama. However, Guyana’s participation has been redirected to its regional group, hence the South America Championship. Guyana’s enjoyed success championship at its last FESUPO outing in Uruguay in 2019.

According to the release, the main hurdle to Guyana’s participation at this juncture is resources. The federation has solicited financial and material support from both the public and private sectors and is hoping for favourable responses to its requests to make participation possible.

In the meantime, the lifters continue to prepare in anticipation of participation. Guyana’s team will be prudently selected, well prepared, ready, and eager to proudly represent the Golden Arrowhead as it has done in the past.

The GAPLF anticipates a successful showing of its athletes and is appealing to potential sponsors to ensure its participation.
