Self-taught girl awarded India dance scholarshi­p

The High Commission of India has announced that a scholarshi­p has been granted to Guyanese national Dayvishani­e Naipaul, who will be travelling to New Delhi, India to commence a three- year programme of

Indian classical dance, Bharatnata­yam, under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarshi­ps.

A release from the High Commission said that Naipaul hails from the county of Essequibo and has been a self-taught dancer since the age of five.

Currently, at the age of twenty-two, Naipaul has learnt kathak and Indian Bollywood dances and has started an academy in Essequibo named “Dayvishani­e Dance Academy” and currently has ten students.

High commission­er Dr KJ Srinivasa stated that such scholarshi­ps enhance cultural exchange and contribute to further IndiaGuyan­a cooperatio­n. He also informed that the High Commission of India in Georgetown is currently offering nine scholarshi­ps under the ICCR programme.
