Self-taught girl awarded India dance scholarship
The High Commission of India has announced that a scholarship has been granted to Guyanese national Dayvishanie Naipaul, who will be travelling to New Delhi, India to commence a three- year programme of
Indian classical dance, Bharatnatayam, under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarships.
A release from the High Commission said that Naipaul hails from the county of Essequibo and has been a self-taught dancer since the age of five.
Currently, at the age of twenty-two, Naipaul has learnt kathak and Indian Bollywood dances and has started an academy in Essequibo named “Dayvishanie Dance Academy” and currently has ten students.
High commissioner Dr KJ Srinivasa stated that such scholarships enhance cultural exchange and contribute to further IndiaGuyana cooperation. He also informed that the High Commission of India in Georgetown is currently offering nine scholarships under the ICCR programme.
