Essequibo’s oldest woman dies at 105 years
Lucretia Bradford, who had been the oldest woman in Region Two, recently passed away.
Bradford, who died on August 8 at the Suddie Hospital, had been 105. She is expected to be laid to rest on Saturday.
Bradford was born in the year 1917 to James Bradford and Christina Grant in the village of Cullen, Essequibo. She was known to many as “Sister Baby” and “Baby Bradford.”
She bore four children, Edward (deceased), Randolph, Sheila and Yvonne, and was the grandmother to 30, greatgrandmother to 75, greatgreat grandmother to 10 and great-great-great grandmother to six.
Bradford was known for her humanitarian efforts and for assisting persons with home remedies.
In May, after marking her birthday, Bradford told this newspaper that she credited her faith as well as her healthy diet for her long and healthy life.
“I read my Bible daily and I would teach my grandchildren verses from the Bible and I would share my knowledge. It is what keep me alive,” Bradford, a member of the Methodist church, said.
Bradford also noted that that she grew up knowing that she had to eat “healthy” in order to fortify her immune system. Her daily meals consists of a lot of “veggies” as well as of fruits.
She had also said that she would regularly boil “ginger” and “turmeric” to drink.
