Nicolette Fernandes is first Guyanese to win a World Masters squash title
-clinches division title at the World Masters Squash Championship
Local squash queen Nicolette Fernandes created history when she became the first Guyanese to win a World Masters squash title, defeating South African, Slyoli Waters, 3-0 to clinch the Women’s 35-plus division title at the World Masters Squash Championship in Poland.
Needing to win her final roundrobin encounter to clinch the title, Fernandes defeated the South African in straight sets 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 to become the only Guyanese to win a World Masters squash accolade.
The decorated Fernandes has captured six women’s senior CASA titles. She also won gold at the 2006 CAC Games, 2010 South American Games, and a historic 2022 Pan Am Senior Squash Championship title, among other silver and bronze medal acquisitions.
