Claudette Caesar Foundation sponsors E’quibo girl to pursue biology degree at UG

Shannia Hoyte, of Anna Regina Secondary, the inaugural winner of the Claudette Caesar Foundation university scholarshi­p, will be moving on to the University of Guyana (UG) to pursue her dreams of becoming a biomedical scientist.

Hoyte, who recently completed her Caribbean Secondary Education Certificat­e (CSEC) examinatio­ns and obtained 10grade ones, 4 grades twos and a grade three, was adjudged the winner of the scholarshi­p and will be pursuing her degree in Biology.

Hoyte was chosen from amongst her peers, having met the academic standards and personal criteria set out by the Foundation’s Board.

The Claudette Caesar Foundation is a non-government­al organisati­on based on the Essequibo Coast and it provides yearly scholarshi­ps to students of the Anna Regina Secondary School. The scholarshi­p programme is intended to benefit students from single parents or low income households as well as students whose lives have been affected by domestic violence.

In order to be eligible students must have attained a maintained a B grade average throughout their secondary education commencing from Grade 8.

Recently, Shannia was presented with a huge stationery package, which included a laptop, by the Head teacher of Anna Regina Secondary School, Ruplall Lalljeet.

Lalljeet is also a Board Member of the Claudette Caesar Foundation.

Hoyte thanked the foundation members for selecting her and said that her parents were not financiall­y stable to provide for her studies. She said that the scholarshi­p will provide more hope for her future.
