Lindener’s home goes up in flames
A Lindener lost his home on Thursday evening when after a fire.
The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said the fire was reportedly caused by naked flames from a lit flambeau, which was left unattended and came into contact with nearby combustible materials, and ignited.
The single-flat wooden building was owned by 51-year-old Mia Stewart and was occupied by Shawn Stewart.
According to a GFS press release, firefighters from the Linden Fire Station were alerted around 21:00 hrs that a house was on fire on the government reserve behind Lot 132 J Wismar Housing Scheme, Linden. Upon arrival, ranks observed that the building was engulfed in flames.
The release further stated that the fire was extinguished by one line working from one of the two water tenders that responded. However, the house and its contents were destroyed.
