Man charged with impersonating doctor

-

The young man who allegedly faked being a medical doctor was on

Tuesday charged and released on $80,000 bail.

Mikhail Tadius

McLennon, Lot 27

Pattensen, Turkeyen,

Greater Georgetown, was arraigned before Magistrate

Judy Latchman at the

Diamond\Grove

Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him.

The allegation brought against the man states that on June 3, at Peter’s Hall,

East Bank Demerara, not being a medical doctor, he held himself out to Bibi S.

Hassan as a person qualified to practice medicine.

As a result of his not guilty plea, McLennon was released on $80,000 bail and the magistrate also ordered that the young man undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The matter was then adjourned until October 28.

It was stated that McLennon was carrying out duties at the Guyana Cancer Foundation sometime in June and after being questioned by Hassan, the founder of the institution, about his qualifications, he declined to give any proof to the woman.

The Foundation subsequently released the following statement: “The Guyana Cancer Foundation wishes to notify the general public that Mikhail Tadius McLennon is not a doctor and there are no records to show that he is registered at the Medical Council of Guyana. He had asked to volunteer with the Guyana Cancer Foundation. I took him as a volunteer but then persons from the media and others called to confirm that his not a doctor.”

Other medical institutions which the man claimed he had studied at have since rejected his assertions that he was ever a student at their institutions.
