Marine Technician in the making:

-

To mark International Day of the Girl, the Ministry of Education spotlighted the story of Suniza Nieto, who left the Eteringbang community in Region Seven a year ago to pursue her dreams of becoming a Marine Technician. According to a post on the ministry’s Facebook page, while in Eteringbang, Suniza would help her father service and repair outboard engines and became well-known in the border community for her skills. Several opportunities later presented themselves to her after an interview with Education Minister Priya Manickchand on October 11, 2021. After much consideration, the ministry said, Suniza took up an offer with Westzyde Marine Inc, who employed her as a Marine Technician, while doing factory certification. She completed the Suzuki Marine Bronze Certification successfully with the Suzuki Marine Institute and is currently pursuing her Silver Certification while simultaneously doing the Level 1 Marine training with Mercury University. She intends to complete all levels of training and become a fully certified Marine Technician. The ministry said her message to other young girls is for them to be confident, be determined and focus on their career. Suniza is currently working as a Marine Technician with Westzyde Marine Inc.
