Ninvalle heads IGG Organising Committee
An Organising Committee has been installed by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Sports Commission (NSC) to ensure the faultless running of the Inter Guiana Games (IGG) which returns on November 25.
This is according to Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, who will head the committee for the three-day spectacle which was last staged in 2017.
Ninvalle disclosed yesterday that the committee “includes several persons that would have had a long relationship with the Inter Guiana Games.”
With less than two weeks to go, he said the countdown is on for the event which is set to attract in excess of 500 student athletes and officials from Suriname, French Guiana and Guyana.
The Director of Sport also disclosed that the National Gymnasium, the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the National Aquatic Centre, the National Track and Field Centre and the Racquet Centre are some of the venues which will play host to the nine-discipline event.
The disciplines are cycling, track and field, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, football, swimming, basketball and badminton.
Initially held in 1967, the IGG is normally an annual affair among Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana, with the most recent edition being held in Suriname in 2017.
“The return of the games is a promise fulfilled by His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali,” Ninvalle concluded.
