Man gets life sentence for murdering Linden vendor

The man who had been accused of mur- dering Dwane Williams, the Linden vendor who was found dead in 2020 behind a shack in the mining town, has been handed a life sentence.

Larry DaSilva was found guilty of the charge earlier this month, but his sentencing had been deferred to facilitate the presentation of probation and other social impact reports.

At his sentencing hearing on Thursday, Justice Sandil Kissoon imposed the life sentence on DaSilva, ordering that he serve a minimum of 25 years before being considered eligible for parole.

In addition to the sentence, the judge ordered that the offender be exposed to anger management sessions and programmes for addicts.

According to a probation report, DaSilva is addicted to the synthetic drug `molly’. He had himself admitted to being a marijuana user.

Further it was ordered that he be exposed to skills and craft training which are all aimed at aiding his rehabilitation.

It was previously reported that Williams, also known as ‘Levi’ and ‘Sweetie Man,’ 54, of Wismar, Linden, was found dead by residents with gaping wounds to his throat and his wrist.

The police had said Williams is believed to have been murdered by a person or persons unknown sometime between the night of November 26th and 5.45 am on November 27th, when he was found with the wounds.

A knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was also found near the site where the man’s body was found.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of Williams’ death to have been multiple incised wounds.
