Guyanese should say ‘well done’ to the police force

-

Dear Editor,

I would like to encourage all Guyanese to say “well done” and “thank-you” to the men and women in the Guyana Police Force (GPF) when exemplary police work has been accomplished.

The start of the New Year has been rocked with some very heinous and mindnumbing murders, and to see the killers caught in a matter of days brings a sense of relief and encouragement that things may be turning around for our beleaguered police force, as well as the feeling that some amount of law and justice is returning to our country.

It is time we acknowledge when our people do a good job and stand up and applaud, because often times (and this is very much human nature) we are quick to criticize but slow to lift up and commend.

I would hope that this trend can continue as our country returns from the ashes of social decay and rot that plagued it under the previous administration, and that the GPF can return to the days when it was respected and highly regarded as a venerable institution.

I also want to encourage our policymakers to continue fighting the battle on many fronts and to not be compromised. As we know the issue of crime has many root causes and fixing the GPF is only one solution; we must continue the battle to take back our country and our youth from evil, vicious and self-serving entities. Yours faithfully, A Persaud
