Helena woman’s death being treated as murder

The post-mortem examinatio­n on the body of the Helena, Mahaica woman that was found partly decomposed in a trench on Sunday, revealed that she died from drowning but she was also found with several hits on her head and the case is now being treated as one of murder.

The body of 28-year-old Hafeeza Rohoman was found floating in a trench some 10 minutes away from her home. She was last seen by her sister Shaneeza Rohoman who had told that the woman was a victim of domestic abuse.

was told that the woman, who has four children, had been living with a man for the last three months.

Neighbours and family had stated that while both of them were alcoholics, the man would often beat her and prevent her from seeing her children, who would stay at her relatives.

Rohoman’s sister, Shaneeza, confirmed that the results of the examinatio­n stated that she died from drowning, however, there were three marks on her head.

She stated that the pathologis­t related to her that there was a hit behind her head, and two others on each of the sides.

Police Commander of ‘ C’ division, Marlon Chapman confirmed last night that since the results of the post- mortem, the investigat­ion will take a turn and be treated as a murder.
