Police are working to complete their investigation of the Blankenburg Public Road, West Coast Demerara fatal accident that claimed the lives of two children soon, according to Traffic Chief Deon Moore.

Moore told Stabroek News that Mark Halley, the father of the two children, was arrested for questioning following his discharge from the hospital and was placed on station bail pending the completion of the probe.

Moore said the police are hoping to wrap up the investigation soon so that the file can be sent for legal advice.

Seven-year-old Tina Halley and her ten-monthold brother Marvin Halley, both of Covent Garden Public Road, East Bank Demerara, died around 2am on September 13 after Mark Halley lost control of the car in which he was transporting them and crashed into parked vehicles.

A man, who resides in the vicinity of where the accident had occurred, had related to this newspaper that based on what he understood Mark swerved from a stray dog and he slammed into the two vehicles.

Mark’s wife, Michell Miguel, was also in the car at the time.

Following the collision, they were all rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where the children were pronounced dead on arrival. Mark and Miguel were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where they were admitted for almost two weeks before being discharged.

Mark sustained head injuries and several broken bones, while Miguel sustained injuries to her neck.
