T&HD present awards to students, essay winners
GINA said that the ceremony saw the organisations awarding the children of parents who work in the Maritime, and Transport & Harbours Departments bursaries and prizes for the winners of the essay competition which was promoted in observance of World Maritime Day.
Essay writers were judged and assessed by a committee based on: Organisation structure, language, style definition and reference approach. The essay competition had two categories.
Category A- 11 to 15 years, and the topic was- ‘Shipping is vital in supporting and sustaining Guyana’s economic growth. Discuss’.
Category B-16 to 18 years, topic was – ‘What improvements are necessary for the local shipping industry to impact global trade’. A-11 to 15 years
