BOG, City Hall broker parking agreement

-

The Bank of Guyana (BOG) and the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) reached an agreement yesterday that will allow the bank’s employees to park around the periphery of the Church Street and Avenue of the Republic building.

For the third time, representatives from the BOG met with Mayor Patricia Chase-Green, Town Clerk Royston King and other representatives from City Hall to discuss the impact of the implementation of the parking meters on workers.

However, unlike the other two meetings, yesterday’s meeting resulted in the two parties coming to an agreement. According to Chase-Green, the

M&CC would allow staff of the bank to park around its periphery, the east and southern side of the bank, excluding the northern side, where the bank already has its own parking lot, for free. She said that in the coming days, the bank would be issued with stickers, which their employees will have to place on their vehicles to enable them to park around the building unhindered.

“We are trying to find accommodation for the various stakeholders and we want to strike a balance where we can find accommodation and allow for the project to be viable so that the objectives can be achieved, so that we can have more money to carry out our mandate as a council,” King related at the meeting.

Chase-Green also told the bank’s representatives that they want them to ensure that the spaces are properly managed.

The agreement will see the bank provided with about 28 free parking permits. King further related that they will be meeting other stakeholders to listen to their claims and qualms about the parking meters and to see how best all parties can assist each other and find common ground.
