Lone thief breaks into Charity pharmacy, home

-

The proprietors of True Value Pharmacy at Charity, Essequibo Coast are counting their losses after their business place was broken into on Wednesday night.

This newspaper was told that security cameras surrounding the building caught the perpetrator in action.

It was yesterday around 8.15am, that the assistant manager of the company discovered that the store had been vandalized and she immediately informed her employer.

Footage from security cameras showed a lone man trying unsuccessfully to gain entry through the front door. He then went around to the back where he broke vent blocks in the wall and entered.

While in the store, he picked up several bottles of perfume, slippers, portable DVD players, clothing and a total of $167,000 – cash from phone cards and CPoint that were sold.

The thief then broke into the house adjoining the business place.

The doors to the laundry, cupboards and bedrooms were all left opened including the grill.

It is believed that the man found a key to the door of the house and escaped through the back door. One bottle of wine was missing from the house and it appeared that while in the house the thief drank two bottles of water.

It is unclear where the security guard was at the time the vandalism occurred and it is being alleged that the thief may have had an accomplice on the lookout.

No one was at home at the time the burglary occurred.

The police were called in yesterday and they are reviewing the security camera tapes in an effort to identify the thief.

Proprietor, Carletta Alphonso declined to speak with the media.

Investigations are ongoing.
