Richardson nets hat tricks in Sparta Boss victory -also scores fastest goal in tournament history

Four teams, Sparta Boss, Broad Street Bullies, Tucville and Agricola secured their berths to the group stage when the Petra Organizati­on Futsal Championsh­ip commenced Monday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Sparta Boss, losing finalist in the inaugural tournament, dismantled Globe Yard 6-1. Gregory Richardson scored a hattrick inclusive of the fastest goal in tourney history in the third second and 10th and 16th minute while Devon Millington also scored three times in the eighth, 20th and 23rd minute.

For Globe Yard, Rolex Smith netted in the ninth minute.

Broad Street Bullies downed Channel-9 Warriors 6-1. Keiron Solomon bagged a hattrick in the seventh, 11th and 24th minute whilst Jimmy Gravesande, Rocky Gravesande and Lennox Cort in the eighth, 10th and 23rd minute apiece.

On target in the loss was Anton Alexander in the second minute. Meanwhile, Tucville downed Kitty Weavers 7-5.

Dennis Edwards netted in the second and ninth minute, Jermin Junior scored in the fifth and 15th minute, Delon Williams found the back of the net in the 18th and 26th minute and Tefon Daly scored in the eighth minute.

For Kitty Weavers, Nigel Denny, Daniel Ross, Tevin Fowler and Gregory Jones netted in the ninth, 23rd, 29th and 30th minute respective­ly, whilst an own goal in the 12th minute added to the score.

Agricola Champion Boys overcame a 2-0 deficit to edge North Ruimveldt 3-2. Domini Garnett tallied a double in the 12th and 20th minute while Quacey Weeks scored in the eighth minute.

For North Ruimveldt, Gerald Gittens and Andrew Gibson scored in the first and third minute.

In other results, West Back Road downed Festival City 2-0 compliment­s of a Josiah Charles double in the sixth and 22nd minute. Also, North East La Penitence edged Leopold Street 2-1.

Romario Andres and Kelvin Moore netted in the ninth and 25th minute respective­ly in the win. For the losing team, Orandel Williams found the back of the net in the 15th minute.

Action in the tourney will continue tomorrow at the same venue with the final six eliminatio­n matches. At 19:30hrs, Hustlers will lock horns with Tiger Bay while West Front Road-Gold is Money opposes crowd favourite Camp Street All-Stars at 20:15hrs.

At 21:00hrs, Albouystow­n will face-off with Campbellvi­lle in the third affair while Alexander Village battles Sophia in the fourth showdown from 21:45hrs.

The final two contests of the evening will pit defending champion Bent Street against Stevedore Housing Scheme at 22:30hrs and East Ruimveldt heavyweigh­t Back Circle against West Demerara giant Showstoppe­rs at 23:15hrs.

Following the conclusion of the eliminatio­n round, the resulting 12 teams will be divided into three groups of four.

Upon the end of the round-robin stage, the top two finishers and the best two third ranked teams from the respective groups will progress to the quarterfin­al phase.

Winner of the tournament will collect $400,000 and the championsh­ip trophy while the runner-up will pocket $200,000 and the correspond­ing accolade.

The third and fourth place finishers will collect $100,000 and $50,000 respective­ly and the respective accolade. The event is slated to conclude on April 15th.
