Limacol Football Champions Western Tigers were officially presented with their prizes on Monday along with the other top four finishers at a simple presentation ceremony held at the Brandsville Hotel, Campbellville.

The West Ruimveldt unit clinched the title after edging fierce rival the Guyana Police Force (GPF) 1-0 via a Colin Nelson strike at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda on March 4th.

For their showing Western Tigers walked away with $500,000 and a trophy. The ever-improving lawmen collected $300,000 and the runnersup accolade.

Petra Organization CoDirector Troy Mendonca, during brief remarks, said: “Petra Organization has seen the staging and conclusion of another effective event which is the hallmark of the organization,” adding that this was their contribution to the sporting fraternity and the society as a whole.

“We would like to express thanks to the Limacol brand, GT Beer brand, Star Party Rentals, Trophy Stall, GFF, Guyana Football Referees Council, the clubs, the players, fans, administrators of GFC, Leonora, Victoria and MSC grounds.”

Mendonca said without the contributions from the above, the event would not have been a success.

“Congratulations to Western Tigers, they truly represented themselves in the tournament,” said Mendonca adding that the time has come for the respective associations to work together towards one goal to move the sport forward as, it is a very challenging exercise.

Banks DIH Communications Officer, Troy Peters, said: “We are extremely proud to be a part of the event. At the start we had anticipated that it would be a success and we saw it happen.

“We look forward to continuing to support the tournament and we will continue to support football in Guyana. Once again this tournament was opportunity to showcase our support for sports,” Peters declared.

Linden’s Winners Connection copped the third place package of $200,000 and a trophy after defeating Santos 5-3 on penalty kicks in the third place playoff. Santos received $100,000 and the corresponding accolade.

Philip Rowley of Western Tigers was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) while teammate Troy Carrington copped the Best Goalkeeper Award.

Quincy Holder of GPF collected the Highest Goal Scorer accolade with four goals. Trophy Stall and Star Party Rentals are the other companies that threw their support behind the championships.
