His executive committee now comprises of first vice-president Jonathan DeGroot, second vicepresident Kester Gomes, Public Relations Officer Rawle Toney, assistant secretary/treasurer Sariah Clarke, Secretary Nadine Luthers-Williams and Treasurer Natasha Narine.

Hooper during a brief comment said, “The plan is basically to get basketball more active, we don’t want long breaks.

Also we have to help out with youth development and get the schools involved as much as possible.”

He added, “They had shown interest in me after my name was in the media and on Facebook. They made contact with me and was willing to work under me so it was easy to allocate positions.”

Hooper, who also holds the portfolio of president of Eagles Basketball Club, secured the GABA presidency when the entity staged its Electoral Congress April 9th at the Cara Lodge Inn, Quamina Street.

At the time of the Electoral Congress, Hooper, who held the position of GABA vice-president under the Andrew Hercules administration, secured the top post after defeating Pacesetters stalwart Clement Brusche 4-1.

He will now head the affairs of the association for the next two years. The clubs that participated at the congress were Colts, Eagles, Pacesetters, Pepsi Sonics and Plaisance Guardians.

The Returning Officer was Leandre Jack. In attendance at the elections was former GABA boss and current Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) vice-president Michael Singh.
