Fruta, Grove Hi-Tech for Super 16 semifinal battle

-

Fruta Conquerors and Grove HiTech will face-off today in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) ‘Super 16 Year-end Classic’ semifinal round, following quarterfinal wins on Wednesday.

Hosted in front of a small crowd at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, Fruta Conquerors humbled Buxton United by a 5-0 scoreline.

Eon Alleyne opened the scoring in the eighth minute, cutting across two defenders on top of the box, following a left side cross from Jermin Junior, before lashing his effort into the top left corner.

Jermin Junior doubled their lead in the 35th minute, rounding the advancing goalkeeper and finishing into the back of the net, after racing onto a through pass from Jahaal Greaves.

Guilty of wasting several oneon-one opportunities throughout the clash, Alleyne eventually grabbed his second in the 65th minute.

Stealing the ball off the final defender, Alleyne bundled his right foot effort past the advancing goalkeeper, into the lower right corner.

Anthony Abrams then made it 4-0 in the 71st minute, blasting into the back of the net, after an initial left side strike from Junior, was parried into his onrushing path, inside the penalty box.

The scoreline was sealed in the 86th minute, as Abrams clinched his double. Racing down the right side, Abrams dribbled his marker and finished into the lower right corner.

On the other hand, Grove HiTech overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Guyana Police Force (GPF) 2-1. Goals from Domini Garnett and Nikoloi Matthews in the 90th+1 and 112th minute clinched the result.

On target for the lawmen in the 12th minute was Quincy Holder. The aforesaid victors will now face-off at the same venue from 21:00hrs.

Meanwhile the second semifinal fixture will pit the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) against Linden outfit Milerock from 18:30hrs.

The event which is being sponsored by Top Brandz Distributors under the Corona Beer Brand, concludes on January 1st at the National Stadium, Providence.
