-

Police on Thursday announced that they have destroyed around 30,000 cultivated marijuana plants, ranging from one to six feet in height, which were found on an acre and a half of land in ‘B’ Division (Berbice).

In a statement, Superintendent of Police Shivpersaud Bacchus said the plants as well as a quantity of seeds that were also found were destroyed by a team that went to Ebini, Upper Berbice River, for a drug eradication operation. The plants and seeds were burnt.

Bacchus noted that a 25year-old resident of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, is in custody in connection with the cultivation. Some of the seeds that were found and destroyed by police in the operation. Cleveland Williams, 46, the man who allegedly stabbed the mother of his child on D’Urban Street, was yesterday brought to a city court to answer to an attempted murder charge.

The charge stated that Williams on April 17th, 2018, at D’Urban Street, Lodge, unlawfully assaulted Lashana Boyce, with intent to commit murder. Williams pleaded not guilty. Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore explained that Boyce is the mother of Williams’ child. He added that on the day of the attack, Williams approached Boyce and dealt her several stabs to her back. She is currently in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital, he noted.

Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman refused bail and adjourned the matter until May 4th.

Boyce, 24, who had secured a restraining order against Williams, was attacked shortly after she took her twoyear-old daughter to school on D’Urban Street. She was said to be heading to work when the man pounced on her.

Williams subsequently turned himself over to the police on Wednesday.
