Suspects in shooting of GRA officers for ID parade

-

The four suspects in the wounding of two Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) enforcement officers last Thursday night at Bee Hive, East Coast Demerara will be placed on an identification parade today.

Crime Chief Paul Williams yesterday told Stabroek News that police are still investigating the shooting.

Williams also stated that investigators have not been able to establish the motive behind the shooting since they have received different versions of what transpired from the victims and suspects.

GRA officers Ricky Chowbay and Roopnarine Singh were conducting an operation to intercept smuggled liquor and chicken. Chowbay and Singh were shot in the right and left hand, respectively, during the operation. They were both rushed to a private hospital where they were treated and then released.

Acting on intelligence gathered, the Law Enforcement and Investigation Division officers went to Bee Hive to search a house for uncustomed goods when they came under fire around 9.50 pm.

During the exercise, the GRA said the officers observed a white Toyota car turning into the street and stopping in front of the house that was under surveillance. “The occupants of the motor vehicle exited and proceeded to maliciously shoot at the Law Enforcement and Investigation Division (LEID) officers with an undisclosed number and calibre of firearms,” a statement from the GRA said.
