Gouveia is new LGC Champion

Marking his return with a win veteran Ian Gouveia took the field by storm to emerge the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) champion by winning the best net as well as best gross categories when the club hosted its championsh­ip on Sunday.

Gouveia was unchalleng­ed apart from club president, Aleem Hussain, with a gross performanc­e equalling 83 but Gouveia had a better back nine while he was the unchalleng­ed winner in the net score with a clear threepoint lead over Hussain.

The course was damp in some places because of the weather, but the spirits of the 17 who braved those conditions were not dampened and they strove for mastery. It was a refreshing tournament especially as other golfers who had not been in tournament­s for a season were delighted to be able to participat­e.

Hussain congratula­ted the winners and expressed his delight that they had determined to play a good game of golf despite the weather conditions. He thanked the groundsmen for the sterling work they are doing to maintain the course. Standing in for Captain Chatterpau­l Deo, golfer Dr Joaan Deo assisted with the distributi­on of prizes. Winning scores and performanc­es at the end of a family.” In response, Stuart the tournament were as follows: Nearest The Pin – Mahendra Bhagwandin; Best Gross – Ian Gouveia; Best Net 1st place – Ian Gouveia 67/16; 2nd – Rabindrana­th Persaud 70/17; 3rd – Aleem Hussain 72/11; 4th – Patanjalee Persaud 73/18. Others who placed in the top 9 were: Satrohan Tiwari 73/14; thanked the former track star for the contributi­on David Harry 76/12; Mike Mangal 77/8; Bridgelall Harry 77/16 and Patrick Prashad 78/9.
