-

Charges are likely to be laid against the two suspect held in connection with the murder of Bourda Market vendor Troy Ramalho.

Guyana Police Force Public Relations Officer Jairam Ramlakhan yesterday told Stabroek News that investigators have sought legal advice, which could see the two suspects, who include a taxi driver, being charged as early as today.

Investigators were granted an extension to further detain the men, Ramlakhan noted.

Stabroek News had previously reported that one of the suspects has been cooperating with police and has admitted to his involvement in the crime.

The man provided them with names of three suspects, one of whom was apprehended.

A search is still ongoing for his two accomplices.

Ramalho, 45, of King Edward Street, Albouystown, was gunned down at his stall just over two weeks ago when he was attacked by three men.

Police, in a statement, had said that Ramalho had just closed for the night and was waiting on a taxi to take him home when the suspects, one of whom was armed with a gun, pounced on him.

The gunman, according to a witness, discharged a round at Ramalho, who fell instantly, while the other men relieved him of his jewellery and quickly fled the scene.

Ramalho was picked and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An autopsy gave his cause of death as gunshot injuries to his chest.
