Four committed to stand trial over Black Bush triple murder

-

After a preliminary inquiry before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga, the four men who were charged for the 2016 Black Bush triple murder were yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court in Berbice.

It was alleged that Carlton Chaitram, 37, known as ‘Lyma’; his son, Jairam Chaitram, 17; Tameshwar Jagmohan, 18, known as ‘Guana,’ of Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder and Rakesh Karamchand, 27, known as ‘Go-To-Front,’ of Sheet Anchor, Canje, between Thursday July 21, 2016 and Friday July 22, 2016 murdered Pawan Chandradeo, 37, his son, Jaikarran Chandradeo 15, and his brother-in-law Naresh Rooplall, 33, at Mibicuri Backdam.

The men were all represented by attorney-at-law, Mursaline Bacchus while the case was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor Phillip Sheriff.

The three were found dead less than a day after they had left to go on a fishing trip in Black Bush Polder back in July, 2016.

The bodies were found at Kokerite Savannah, Mibicuri Creek, with one gunshot wound each. Postmortem examinations revealed that Pawan Chandradeo had sustained a laceration to his head resulting in a fractured skull and that he subsequently died of shock and haemorrhaging. Jaikarran Chandradeo, 15, and Naresh Rooplall, 33, had also died of shock and haemorrhaging.

A shotgun is believed to have been used to inflict the deadly wounds.

Indrawattie Rooplall also known as “Pam”, 38, wife of Pawan Chandradeo, mother of Jaikarran Chandradeo and sister of Naresh Rooplall, last evening told Stabroek News that she felt a bit relieved and satisfied to some extent after the magistrate committed the men to stand trial in the high court yesterday. “I feel a bit happy because I know one part done and justice is coming”, she said.

The woman noted, that she will be closely following the proceedings in the high court.
