Cop charged with un­law­ful pos­ses­sion of ammo

A po­lice con­sta­ble was yes­ter­day granted bail af­ter he was ac­cused of il­le­gally hav­ing sev­eral rounds of am­mu­ni­tion in his pos­ses­sion.

Romell Cato, of Ber­bice, was read the charge that on De­cem­ber 1st, at Brick­dam, Ge­orge­town, he had a to­tal of 14 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion in his pos­ses­sion. They com­prised 13 .223 rounds and a sin­gle .38 round.

Cato de­nied the charge af­ter it was read to him by Mag­is­trate Faith McGusty in Ge­orge­town.

Po­lice pros­e­cu­tor Seon Black­man ob­jected to the ac­cused be­ing granted bail based upon the se­ri­ous­ness of the crime.

The un­rep­re­sented ac­cused was later granted his re­lease on $100,000 bail.

His next hear­ing is sched­uled for De­cem­ber 14th, when the mat­ter is ex­pected to be heard by the Chief Mag­is­trate.
