Man beaten at Ro­den Rust af­ter sus­pi­cious be­hav­iour

A sus­pected ban­dit was on Fri­day night cap­tured and beaten by res­i­dents af­ter he and three oth­ers al­legedly planned to rob a boat at Ro­den Rust, Parika, East Bank Esse­quibo.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred around 11pm.

A po­lice source told Stabroek News that the beaten man was handed over to the po­lice and re­mains in cus­tody. His com­pan­ions es­caped by plung­ing into the river.

While de­tails sur­round­ing the in­ci­dent re­main sketchy, this news­pa­per was told that the men ar­rived in the area in a mo­tor car. Res­i­dents in the area be­came sus­pi­cious af­ter they were al­legedly seen parked out­side one house for some time.

The men were re­port­edly ap­proached by res­i­dents when three of them man­aged to es­cape. The nabbed man suf­fered a thrash­ing be­fore he was handed over to the po­lice.

Stabroek News was told that the men are known for car­ry­ing out rob­beries in the area on a reg­u­lar ba­sis.
