Su­per­nova cops bronze at UWI in­door hockey tour­na­ment

Guyana’s na­tional U19 In­door De­vel­op­ment Hockey Team, Su­per­nova, clinched third place in the Uni­ver­sity of the West Indies (UWI) In­door Tour­na­ment which ended last evening at the UWI Sports and Phys­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre (SPEC) in­door fa­cil­ity in Trinidad and Tobago.

The lo­cal ju­niors de­feated Paragon 5-4 to cop the third-place spot.

Two of Guyana’s most ex­cit­ing play­ers Omar Hopkinson and War­ren Wil­liams net­ted two goals each while Ka­reem McKen­zie net­ted the fifth to seal the win in the 29th minute af­ter the game was tied 4-4. Kel­lon Sker­ritt scored twice while Jabari Perez and Akim Tous­saint scored the other goals for Paragon in a los­ing cause.

Ear­lier in the day, the Guyanese lost their semi-fi­nal match against Po­lice on penalty shootouts af­ter the match ended 33 at the end of reg­u­la­tion time.

McKen­zie, Wil­liams and Hopkinson were the scor­ers for the Guyanese while Wayne Legerton net­ted a hat trick for Po­lice to leave the game to be de­cided on penalty shoot-out.
