Paul keen to contribute more with the bat during CPL 2019
Keemo Paul, following his heroics with the bat to guide the Guyana Amazon Warriors to a match-winning total over the St Lucia Zouks on Thursday evening, said he is quite focused on evolving into the kind of player who can craft more enterprising moments with both ball and bat throughout CPL 2019.
Paul during Warriors’ innings, strolled to the crease, with his side in a precarious positon with the score on 85-5. He then carved out an innings of 38 from 22 balls inclusive of three fours and the same number of sixes to see Warriors to 155-9. Zouks in the end, fell short by 13 runs.
“It was good to contribute to the team in the first game,” he said of his matchwinning knock which happens to be his highest T20 score.
“Coming from the West Indies team, I’ve been preparing for the white-ball cricket,” he added during a post-match press briefing. Paul who is no slouch with the bat, a fact that is known to those who followed his age-group career, has seen his exploits with the ball grabbing most of the attention. However, he explained that he is certainly keen to fall into the mould of genuine all-rounders at the highest level by producing the numbers with the willow in hand.
“During the Test [series against India] Griff [Rayon Griffith] has been working with me on my batting and like, I said, I just want to contribute to the team. I’ve been working on getting a stable base to hit through the line of the ball and it looks to be working for me.”
Paul will get another opportunity to extend his impressive start to the tournament with the bat when Warriors take on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots this evening from 8 Pm. Professional boxing will return later this month to the 592, ending a lengthy wait for the starved fans of the ‘Sweet Science’.
According to information reaching this publication, a stacked international, six-fight card dubbed ‘Not In My House’ is scheduled to be staged on September 28 at D’Urban Park.
The card which is a collaborative effort involving the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC), Caribbean Knockouts, HJ Entertainment and NexGen Global Marketing, will become official when the contracts are signed on Monday.
Flyweight standout, Dexter ‘De Kid’ Marques and Colombian, Jose Antonio Jimenez are scheduled to headline the night’s proceedings in a 10-round contest.
The card will also see Romeo Norville matching gloves with Edmond DeClou (catchweight-six rounds), Joel Williamson taking on Keeve Allicock in a four-round super lightweight encounter and Patrick Boston facing middleweight, Bryan Cuvero of the USA over four rounds.
Organizers of the open air event have also pit welterweight, Anson Green against the USA’s Raymond Wilburg (four rounds) and light heavyweights, James Moore and James Walcott (six rounds) against each other.
