Muneshwer seeking approval to set up container workshop at Houston

Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) partner Robin Muneshwer wants to establish a shipping container handling and workshop facility near the Houston, East Bank of Demerara shore base to repair heavyduty equipment, according to a public notice issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

GYSBI is a consortium comprising Muneshwers Limited, TOTALTEC Oilfield Services, Pacific Rim Constructors, and LED Offshore. Its current Houston, East Bank Demerara 30acre property, where operations began in 2017, was purchased from timber company Caribbean Resources Limited in 2014, for US$20 million.

Muneshwers is a Guyanese company while Lars Mangal, who has Guyanese roots, is the Chief Executive Officer of TOTALTEC. Pacific Rim Constructors, meanwhile, is a Russia-based company founded in 2001 by Glen Beal and Bill Davis, according to its website. Not much is known about LED Offshore and its principals.

“The following applications have been submitted to the Environmental Protection

Agency for Environmental Authorization: Rabindranath Muneshwer –Establishment of a shipping container handling and workshop for – repair of heavy duty equipment located at W8,W9,W10, Plantation Houston Greater Georgetown,” the notice, which was published in the Sunday Chronicle, states.

The areas specified are near to the newly built Gafoors Houston Hardware Complex.

Last year September, GYSBI announced that it had sunk over US$100 million ($20.8 billion) into its operations here and planned to invest US$50 million ($10.4 billion) in the next 12 months.

Those plans included the purchase of an additional 100 acres of land located around the same area that the proposed facility is to be located.

Since ExxonMobil’s oil discoveries offshore Guyana, a number of global oil majors and oil support companies have established a presence here, with local offices and other facilities secured through leases or acquisitions.

Most of the lands in the Houston area where Muneshwer wants to set up the workshop and shipping container handling facility have already been sold and up to last December developers were forging ahead with plans.

TechnipFMC, the United Kingdom headquartered subsea project Management Company, last February broke ground for its proposed facility adjacent to GYSBI’s new development and currently has an office at Muneshwers’ current location.
