Chinese national in fatal Corentyne accident to return to court in July

-

The Chinese national who allegedly fatally struck down a Nigg, Corentyne pensioner in January was finally placed before the court on Monday.

He will now have to return in early July after there was no interpreter present at the court.

On January, 7, Pravidi Ramcharran also known as “Marina”, 81, a pensioner, had just exited the Nigg Post Office around 10 am and proceeded to walk a short distance to cross the public road on a nearby pedestrian crossing, when she was struck by motor car, PPP 1008 driven by the Chinese national.

Relatives of the woman had stated, that she had left home to collect her pension at the Nigg Post Office that morning.

A nearby CCTV camera captured the entire accident.

However after months of delay, police on Monday filed the matter at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

Guomin Xing, 29, of Lot 56 Robb Street, Lacytown, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh.

The charge sheet states, that Xing on Tuesday, January 7 at Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, drove motor car PPP 1008 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Ramcharran.

Hugh was unable to read the charge after Xing, who was unrepresented, indicated that he did not speak English and an interpreter was not present.

The matter was then put down to July 3, when is it expected that an interpreter will be located.

After the accident, Xing was placed on $100,000 station bail and asked to lodge his passport at the Albion Police Station.
