Arrest made in Middle Road La Penitence murder case
A man is now in custody in connection with the murder of a young marketing agent which took place in broad daylight on July 23 in Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown.
Sources from the Guyana Police Force have confirmed that a man is in custody. He is believed to be the mastermind behind the robbery and gunning down of 23-yearold Navindra Samaroo.
It is alleged that the person now in custody received information that Samaroo was traversing the city with a large amount of cash in his possession. This person is alleged to be the man who gave that information to the persons who conducted the robbery, which ultimately led to Samaroo being shot and subsequently succumbing to the gunshot injury he sustained.
Sources also confirmed that the robbers did not get anything close to the amount they expected.
Samaroo, 23, an employee at G & J Phone Cards Investment, was shot and killed in a suspected robbery in broad daylight on Thursday. A bag that was in his possession was taken during the course of the crime. The man’s father explained that his son left work to run some errands and pick up lunch when he was attacked while on his way back to work.
Samaroo’s mother, Dalini Shivcharran, told Stabroek News that the post-mortem examination, which was conducted yesterday, showed that he was shot once in the arm. However, the bullet didn’t exit Samaroo’s body, but deflected into his chest and severed an artery.
The matter is still under investigation.
