Teen scholarshi­p quarterfin­alists for Facebook live reveal tonight

The names of the candidates who have been selected as quarterfin­alists for next year’s Miss Guyana Teen Scholarshi­p Pageant ( MGTSP) will be revealed tonight live on Facebook during an Awards’ Night presented by the Miss Guyana Teen Scholarshi­p Organisati­on. One of the 16 young women who participat­ed in the pageant’s recent digital university programme will be named valedictor­ian and receive a $75,000 cash grant.

Several of the participan­ts of the digital programme will also be presented awards for Punctualit­y and Attendance, Commitment and Stellar Dedication to the programme, and Appreciati­on for Congeniali­ty, Cooperatio­n and Friendly Personalit­y. All those who completed the programme will be presented with certificat­es.

Twenty percent of the valedictor­ian’s grant will go towards a charity or special programme of her choice.

The quarterfin­alists will be chosen from the 16 teenage participan­ts: Anasie Fredericks, Aneisa Harriman, Dianty Persaud, Divya Mohan, Donyale Nurse, Jordana Adams, Kayla King, Kristie Kissoon, Kriston Smith, Renee Amjad, Sarah

Noordwyk, Sephora Persaud, Shequana Holder, Tehillah Sobers, Teija Edwards, and Trinity Thompson. These young women were shortliste­d from a total of 41 applicants. The quarterfin­alists will each introduce themselves, as well as share their experience­s of being involved in the programme.

All of the participan­ts engaged in the two-month programme via the digital platforms Zoom, Google Classroom, and WhatsApp. Candidates participat­ed in 16 webinars in three modules: Self-awareness and Value, Profession­alism and Etiquette, and Human Rights and Social Developmen­t. Each candidate was evaluated during the programme for the selection of the quarterfin­alists.

The young women who automatica­lly secure a spot in the quarterfin­als for the Miss Guyana Teen Scholarshi­p 2021 Pageant will have the opportunit­y to vie for the Miss Guyana Teen Scholar Crown, a title that also comes with a $ 400,000 scholarshi­p award.

Miss Guyana Teen Scholarshi­p 2019 Devya Singh will also deliver her final speech as the reigning queen. She will again make an appearance next year, should all go well as it relates to the pandemic, where

she will crown her successor. Meanwhile, the MGTSP 2019 court which includes runners-up, Naheeryah Newland and Christel Mangra will remain in place until a new queen is crowned.

Tonight’s virtual Award Event will be hosted by Robertson, who is a radio personalit­y. The show is slated to start at 8 pm and can be viewed on The Imperial House Facebook page.
